Shopify alternative
Shopify alternative in India with 0% transaction fees
Updated · Written by the TeraCart team
TeraCart is a Shopify alternative for Indian D2C brands that takes 0% of your sales when you connect your own Razorpay or PayU account. Shopify charges 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced for sales paid through a third-party gateway, which is how Indian stores take online payments because Shopify Payments is not available here. TeraCart plans start free and cost ₹999, ₹2,999 or ₹7,999 a month, and your payment provider charges its own processing fee on either platform.
What 0% transaction fees means
TeraCart does not take a percentage of your orders. When a shopper pays through your own Razorpay or PayU account, the money goes from the gateway to your bank and TeraCart's cut is 0%. You pay a monthly plan price instead, or nothing on the Free plan.
Two things sit outside that zero. Your payment provider still charges its processing fee, exactly as it would on any platform. And if you choose Tera Pay, TeraCart's optional built-in payments, TeraCart charges 1.75% per payment in place of a separate provider account. Cash on delivery goes through no gateway, so TeraCart takes nothing on those orders; your courier's COD charges still apply.
What Shopify charges in India
Shopify Payments is not on Shopify's list of supported countries, and India is not on it, so Indian stores take online payments through a third-party provider such as Razorpay. Shopify then adds a transaction fee on top of that provider's own fee. This is what Shopify's India pricing page showed on 21 October 2026:
| Plan | Per month, billed yearly | Per month, billed monthly | Fee on third-party payments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | ₹1,499 | ₹1,994 | 2% |
| Grow | ₹5,599 | ₹7,447 | 1% |
| Advanced | ₹22,680 | ₹30,164 | 0.6% |
Shopify Plus starts at ₹1,75,000 a month. Shopify's pricing page also advertises 3 days free, then ₹20 a month for 3 months. On the fee itself, Shopify's help centre says it does not apply to manual payment methods such as cash on delivery, that it is in addition to your provider's processing fee, and that it is not returned when you refund an order.
The fee gap in rupees
This is the platform fee alone, on sales paid online through a third-party gateway. It leaves out your payment provider's fee, which is the same on both platforms, and it leaves out COD sales, which Shopify does not charge on.
| Online-paid sales | Shopify Basic | Shopify Grow | Shopify Advanced | TeraCart |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,00,000 a month | ₹2,000 | ₹1,000 | ₹600 | ₹0 |
| ₹5,00,000 a month | ₹10,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹3,000 | ₹0 |
| ₹20,00,000 a month | ₹40,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹12,000 | ₹0 |
Add the subscription. A store selling ₹5,00,000 a month online pays about ₹11,499 a month on Shopify Basic when billed yearly (₹1,499 plus the fee). The same store pays ₹999 on TeraCart Plus, or ₹2,999 on Pro if it wants WhatsApp and COD risk checks as well.
What your monthly price includes
- Free: a store on teracart.co with up to 50 products, checkout, discounts, pages, a blog, reviews, heatmaps, session replay, live chat and abandoned cart emails, with no time limit.
- Every plan: GST invoices, Shiprocket labels and COD controls, including a deposit, a COD fee, an order cap and OTP confirmation.
- Plus (₹999): your own domain, up to 500 products, three team members, bulk import and the Shopify move.
- Pro (₹2,999): unlimited products, WhatsApp recovery and campaigns, Customer DNA, loyalty and referrals, and COD risk checks.
- Max (₹7,999): unlimited team members, API and webhook access, and white-label or headless support.
On Shopify, reviews, loyalty, heatmaps and live chat are usually separate apps, each with its own bill. On TeraCart they are part of the platform, so the comparison above understates the gap for a store that runs several of them.
Where Shopify is still the better choice
TeraCart is newer and smaller. Shopify has a far larger app store, a deeper theme library, point-of-sale for in-person selling, a large pool of agencies and developers to hire, and a long record at big scale. TeraCart's outside integrations are few, and its first-party apps start with Shiprocket.
If your store depends on one particular Shopify app, or you sell offline, check that the same thing exists on TeraCart before you move. The full TeraCart and Shopify comparison goes through this in more detail.
How to try TeraCart without risk
- Build a store on the Free plan. It needs no card.
- Add a few products, connect your Razorpay or PayU account and place a test order.
- If you already sell on Shopify, read what moves and what does not before you connect it.
Every new store also gets 14-day Pro trial with no card. When it ends you pick a plan or the store moves to Free on its own. Nothing is deleted.
Questions people ask
Does TeraCart charge any fee on my sales?
Not on sales paid through your own Razorpay or PayU account: TeraCart's cut is 0% on every plan. Your payment provider charges its usual processing fee. If you use Tera Pay, TeraCart's optional built-in payments, the fee is 1.75% per payment.
Do I still pay Razorpay or PayU?
Yes. The provider's processing fee is separate from any platform fee, on TeraCart and on Shopify alike. Your own agreement with the provider sets the rate, so check it before you compare totals.
Does Shopify charge its fee on cash on delivery orders in India?
Shopify's help centre says the third-party transaction fee does not apply to manual payment methods such as cash on delivery. It does apply to online payments through a third-party gateway, which is why the gap between the two platforms shows up on prepaid orders.
How much does Shopify cost in India?
On 21 October 2026, Shopify's India pricing page showed Basic at ₹1,499 a month billed yearly (₹1,994 billed monthly), Grow at ₹5,599 (₹7,447) and Advanced at ₹22,680 (₹30,164). Apps and your payment provider's fee come on top.
Can I move my Shopify store to TeraCart?
Yes. You connect your Shopify store and TeraCart copies it across. Moving is included on Plus and higher, and during the free Pro trial. Migrating from Shopify to TeraCart lists what moves and what does not.
Is TeraCart as good as Shopify?
For an Indian D2C store that wants GST invoices, COD controls and reviews built in, it covers the daily work without paid apps. Shopify is the more mature platform, with a bigger app and theme ecosystem, so the honest answer depends on which of those you rely on.
